Evening Prayer for the day - 30/05/2007 - by William Barclay

O God, our Father, who bid us to pray for all men,

we remember at evening time those who specially need our prayers.

Bless those who are lonely,

and who feel their loneliness worst of all at evening time.

Bless those who are sad,

and who at evening feel most of all the absence of someone whom they loved,

and lost awhile.

Bless those who are ill, and who will not sleep this night;

and those who this night will keep awake to ease the sufferer’s pain.

Bless those who have no home, and no family circle to call their own.

O God, who are everywhere present,

bless this our home, and help us to remember that Jesus is always our unseen guest,

and so help us never in this place to do or to say anything which would make him sad.

Keep us this night in the dark hours,

and grant us kindly sleep,

and make us to feel around us and above us the clasp or your everlasting arms,

which will never let go of us.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord

Amen

Morning Prayer for the day - 30/05/2007 - by William Barclay

O God, our Father, bless us and keep us all through today.

At our work, make us diligent,

ever showing ourselves to be workmen who have no need to be ashamed.

In our pleasure, help us to find delight only in such things as bring no regrets to follow.

In our homes, make us kind and considerate,

ever trying to make the work of others easier,

and not harder.

In our dealings with our fellow-men, make us courteous and kindly.

In our dealings with ourselves, make us honest to face the truth.

And in every moment of this day make us ever to remember that You,

God, see us, and that in You we love and move and have our being.

So grant that we may not nothing which would bring shame to ourselves,

grief to those who love us, and sorrow to You,

through Jesus our Lord.

Amen

COMMON EVERYDAY PRAYERS

The Lord"s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.

Benedictions

Numbers 6:24-26

(NKJV)

The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.

(NIV)

The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace."

(NLT)

May the LORD bless you and protect you.

Apostles" Creed

I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell: The third day he rose again from the dead:He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty: From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead: I believe in the Holy Ghost: I believe in the holy catholic church: the communion of saints: The forgiveness of sins: The resurrection of the body: And the life everlasting. Amen.

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
