EVENING PRAYER for the day - 4/06/2007 - by William Barclay

O God,

the Lord of our good live,

we give You thanks for every part of the day which is coming to an end.

We thank you for the morning light to call us from our resting beds.

We thank you for the midday hours filled with work

and with many activities in the company of our fellow men.

We thank you for the evening time to sit at home amidst our family circle,

or to go out upon our pleasures with our friends.

And now we thank you for the night and for kindly sleep.

We thank You for every happy thing which has come to us this day,

and for all things which bring us joy when we remember them.

We ask you for forgiveness for everything in today which hurts us and shames us when we remember it.

Grant unto us now to lay ourselves down,

and to sleep in peace, because we are at peace with You,

and at peace with our fellow men,

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

Amen.

MORNING PRAYER for the day - 4/06/2007 - by William Barclay

O Lord. Our God,

save us this day from all the sins into which we so easily and so continually fall.

Save us from demanding standards from others which we never even try to satisfy ourselves.

Save us from being very easy on ourselves and very hard on others.

Save us from making excuses for things in ourselves which in others we would condemn.

Save us from taking for granted all that our loved ones do for us,

and from never realizing how much they do and how much we demand.

Help us all through this day to try to do to others

what we would wish them to do to us,

and so help us to fulfill the law of Jesus Christ.

This we ask for Your love’s sake.

Amen.

EVENING PRAYER for the day - 3/06/2007 - by William Barclay

O God, our Father,

as we kook back across this day,

we ask You to

Forgive us if today we have made things harder for others.

Forgive us if we have made work harder for others,

by being careless, thought less, selfish and inconsiderate.

Forgive us if we have made faith harder for others,

by laughing at things they old precious,

or casting doubts on thing they hold dear.

Forgive us if we have made goodness harder for others,

by setting then an exam;le which would make it easier for them to go wrong.

Forgive us if we have made joy harder for others,

by bringing gloom and depression through

our grumbling discontent specially at home.

Forgive us, O God for all the ugliness of our lives;

and tomorrow help us to walk more nearly as our Master Jesus walked,

that something of his grace and beauty may be on us.

This we ask for Your love’s sake.

Amen.

MORNING PRAYER for the day - 3/06/2007 - by William Barclay

O God,

all through today make me quicker to praise than to criticize.

Help me never to forget to thank people for anything that they do for me.

Make me always ready to speak a word of praise and of appreciation.

Grant that I may take no service for granted,

and that I may allow no help to pass unnoticed.

Make me quick to notice when people are upset or depressed,

and give me the ability to speak the word which will help and cheer them.

All through today help me to think far less of myself and far more of others,

and so to find my own happiness in making others happy.

This I ask for Jesus’ sake.

Amen.

COMMON EVERYDAY PRAYERS

The Lord"s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.

Benedictions

Numbers 6:24-26

(NKJV)

The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.

(NIV)

The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace."

(NLT)

May the LORD bless you and protect you.

Apostles" Creed

I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell: The third day he rose again from the dead:He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty: From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead: I believe in the Holy Ghost: I believe in the holy catholic church: the communion of saints: The forgiveness of sins: The resurrection of the body: And the life everlasting. Amen.

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
