EVENING PRAYER for the day - 1/06/2007 - by William Barclay

O God, Our Father,

Master of all good workmen,

always at evening time we remember the things which we have left undone.

Forgive us for the promises we made and did not carry out.

Forgive us for the resolutions we took and did not keep.

Forgive us for the tasks we began and never finished.

Grant that we may never put off a task or delay a decision until tomorrow,

when it should be done and taken today.

Help us so to live that, whenever Your call comes for us,

at morning or at midday, or at evening, it ma find us ready.

Now grant unto us this night the sleep which will bring rest to our bodies

and peace to our minds;

and grant that we may raise tomorrow to be better workmen

and better servants of our Lord.

This we ask for Your love’s sake

Amen.

MORNING PRAYER for the day - 1/06/2007 - by William Barclay

O Lord God,

before we go out on the duties and the tasks of this day, we ask You to direct,

to control, and to guide us all through its hours.

Grant that today we may never for one moment forget Your presence.

Grant that we may take no step,

and that we may come to no decision, without Your guidance, and that, before we act,

we may ever seek to find Your will for us.

Be on our lips that we may speak no evil word.

Be in our eyes that they may never linger on lay forbidden thing.

Be on our hands that we may do our own work with diligence,

and serve the needs of others with eagerness.

Be in our minds that no soiled or bitter thought may gain an entry to them.

Be in our hearts that they may be warm with love for you, and for our fellow-men.

Help us to begin, to continue, and to end this day in you;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

COMMON EVERYDAY PRAYERS

The Lord"s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.

Benedictions

Numbers 6:24-26

(NKJV)

The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.

(NIV)

The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace."

(NLT)

May the LORD bless you and protect you.

Apostles" Creed

I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell: The third day he rose again from the dead:He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty: From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead: I believe in the Holy Ghost: I believe in the holy catholic church: the communion of saints: The forgiveness of sins: The resurrection of the body: And the life everlasting. Amen.

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
