EVENING PRAYER for the day - 13/06/2007 - by William Barclay

Our Father in heaven,

this night we thank You for the comfort and the companionship and the love of this our home.

We thank You for the joy of being together in a family.

We thank you for this day’s work, and for this night’s rest.

We ask You to bless those for whom there will be no sleep tonight;

those who must wrk without the night;

those who journey through the night by a sea or land or air,

to bring us our food, our letters, and our newspapers for the morning;

those who must be on duty all night to maintain the public services,

and to ensure the safety and the security of others;

doctors who must wake to usher new life into the world,

to close the eyes of those for whom this life is passing away,

to ease the sufferer’s fain;

nurses and all who watch by the bedside of those who are ill;

those who this night will not sleep because of the pain of their body or the distress of their mind;

those in misfortune, who will lie down in hunger and in cold.

Grant that in our happiness and our own comfort we may never forget the sorrow and the pain,

the loneliness and the need of others in the slow, dark hours.

This we ask for Your love’s sake.

Amen

MORNING PRAYER for the day - 13/06/2007 - by William Barclay

O God, our Father,

who ever make the light to shine out of the darkness,

we thank You for waking us to see the light of this new day.

Grant us

To waste none of its hours;

To soil none of its moments;

To neglect none of its opportunities;

To fail none of its duties.

And bring us to the evening time

Undefeated by any temptation,

At peace with ourselves

At peace with our fellow-men

And at peace with You

This we ask for Your love’s sake .

Amen

COMMON EVERYDAY PRAYERS

The Lord"s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.

Benedictions

Numbers 6:24-26

(NKJV)

The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.

(NIV)

The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace."

(NLT)

May the LORD bless you and protect you.

Apostles" Creed

I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell: The third day he rose again from the dead:He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty: From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead: I believe in the Holy Ghost: I believe in the holy catholic church: the communion of saints: The forgiveness of sins: The resurrection of the body: And the life everlasting. Amen.

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
