EVENING PRAYER for the day - 31/05/2007 - by William Barclay

O God,

the giver of all good gifts we thank You for all happy things which came to us this day.

We thank you for any kindness which we have received.

We thank You for any word of thanks or praise or encouragement which has come to us

We thank You for anything which made us feel that we were needed and valued and appreciated.

We thank You for any new friendship that we have made,

and for any old friendship which has become still more strong and precious.

We thank You for any temptation which we have been enabled to resist,

and for any service that we have been enabled to render.

Accept, O God, all in this day which has been in accordance with your will, and forgive

That which has not been so;

and help us to lay ourselves to sleep in perfect fellowship with you and with our fellow-men;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

MORNING PRAYER for the day - 31/05/2007 - by William Barclay

O God, our Father,

help us all through this day so to live that we may bring help to others,

credit to ourselves and to the nave we bear, and joy to those who love us, and to You.

Help us to be

Cheerful when things to wrong;

Persevering when thing are difficult;

Serene when things are irritating.

Enable us to be

Helpful to those in difficulties;

Kind to those in need;

Sympathetic to those whose hearts are sore and sad.

Grant that

Nothing may make us lose our temper;

Nothing may take away our joy;

Nothing may ruffle our peace;

Nothing may make us bitter towards any man.

So grand that all through this day all with whom we work,

and all whom we meet, may see in us the reflection of the Master, Jesus, whose we are,

and whom we seek to serve.

This we ask for Your love’s sake .

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
