EVENING PRAYER for the day - 10/06/2007 - by William Barclay

O God,

who has given us a life to live,

and a task to do, bless us at eventide.

Forgive us for the things which we have left half done today,

and for the things which we have not even begun.

Forgive us for the plans that we made, and did not carry out;

and for the dreams which are still only dreams.

Forgive us for the promises which we made to you and to our fellow-men,

and did not keep.

O God, our Father,

bless those who this night specially need Your blessing.

Bless those on journeys by sea and land and air;

those who this night will lie down in hunger and in cold;

those who are in prison and in disgrace;

those who are ill and who will not sleep tonight;

those who are sad and for whom the slow,

dark hours are very lonely.

Bless each one of us, and be with us through this night,

and stay with us until the day shall break and all the shadows flee away;

through Christ our Lord .

Amen

MORNING PRAYER for the day - 10/06/2007 - by William Barclay

O God,

our Creator and our Father, who has given us the gift of life,

bless us this day as we go to the work which has been given us to do.

We thank You for our work, and for the health to do it.

We thank You for the skill of hand,

for accuracy of eye and mind and brain,

to earn a living and to do the work of a house and home.

We thank You for the friends and the comrades whom You have given to us,

for those in whose company joys are doubly dear,

and in those presence sorrow’s pain is soothed.

Help us today to b e so cheerful,

that it may make others happier to meet us.

Help us to be so true to You,

that we may be a strength to others who are tempted.

O Lord Jesus,

we have begun the day with You,

grant that Your reflection may be upon us through out all its hours.

Amen.

COMMON EVERYDAY PRAYERS

The Lord"s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.

Benedictions

Numbers 6:24-26

(NKJV)

The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.

(NIV)

The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace."

(NLT)

May the LORD bless you and protect you.

Apostles" Creed

I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell: The third day he rose again from the dead:He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty: From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead: I believe in the Holy Ghost: I believe in the holy catholic church: the communion of saints: The forgiveness of sins: The resurrection of the body: And the life everlasting. Amen.

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
